Shibir-backed Panel Leads in DUCSU Pre-election Survey

Dhaka, September 7 – With the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election drawing closer, anticipation among students is at its peak. A pre-election survey conducted by Narrative has revealed striking insights into students’ preferences and expectations, with indications that the Shibir-backed panel is currently leading in key positions.

The survey was carried out between August 30 and September 3 across 14 residential halls of Dhaka University (10 male halls and 4 female halls). A total of 520 respondents participated. Votes were analyzed based on gender, hall, department, and expectations, with each category normalized to 100 percent for clarity.

Voter Participation

The enthusiasm among students is high—94.8% expressed their willingness to vote, while only 5.18% showed disinterest.

Vice President (VP) Race

When asked about their preferred candidate for the VP position, 24.7% of respondents remained undecided, while 75.3% had made their choice:

  • Shamim Hossain – 16.5%
  • Abu Sadiq Kayem – 41.9%
  • Abidul Islam – 13.9%
  • Umama Fatema – 8.8%

The survey shows Abu Sadiq Kayem—known to be backed by Shibir—emerging as the frontrunner for the VP post.

General Secretary (GS) Race

The GS race remains highly competitive. 66.1% of students have made their decision, while 33.9% are still undecided:

  • Arafat Chowdhury – 16.1%
  • Meghmollar Basu – 9.12%
  • S M Forhad – 32.1%
  • Tanbir Bari Hamim – 16.1%
  • Abu Bakar Mojumdar – 13.7%

Here, S M Forhad currently enjoys the highest support among decided voters.

Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Race

In the AGS contest, 40.8% of respondents have not yet decided. Among those who have:

  • Tanbir Al Hadi Mayed – 15.9%
  • Mohiuddin Khan – 52.9%
  • Ashrefa Khatun – 9.49%
  • Jabir Ahmed Jubel – 4.07%

The survey indicates Mohiuddin Khan is significantly ahead in this position.

The Narrative survey highlights that Dhaka University students are eager to take part in the upcoming DUCSU election. While the GS race appears open, the VP and AGS positions show clear leads for candidates reportedly supported by Shibir, suggesting that the group’s influence in this year’s election could be decisive.
