Campaign in Full Swing for Chadwell Council Election: Maruf Ahmed and Shamima Aktar in the Field
Campaign activities have intensified in Chadwell ahead of the upcoming Local Election 2026, as candidates Maruf Ahmed and Shamima Aktar are actively reaching out to residents with their plans and commitments for the community.
The two candidates are representing Redbridge Matters, an independent community-led political group contesting the election in the Chadwell area. According to campaign materials released by the group, the candidates aim to address local concerns, improve public services, and promote safer and stronger neighbourhoods.
Maruf Ahmed brings a broad range of experience from working in central and local government as well as in the charity sector. He has also worked with the BBC, gaining extensive experience in public service and community engagement. His campaign highlights his work supporting residents in resolving local issues, guiding them to access public services, and advocating on their behalf. Ahmed has also been involved in initiatives focused on improving education standards and helping families access school placements and other benefits through his work with a local authority.
Meanwhile, Shamima Aktar has been actively involved in community work, particularly supporting families and children. Through her work with families, schools, and early help services, she has gained a strong understanding of the challenges faced by local residents. With professional training in child development, safeguarding, and family support, Aktar says she aims to work closely with local organisations, schools, and care providers to secure better outcomes for children and families in the community.
In a message included in the campaign leaflet, Khaled Noor, a former councillor and leader of Redbridge Matters, described the party as a community-driven independent group registered with the Electoral Commission. He said the organisation is committed to transparency, accountability, and delivering real results for residents.
Noor added that the group’s mission is to ensure better services, safer streets, a healthier environment, sustainable development, and real value for taxpayers.
The London Borough of Redbridge council elections are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 7 May 2026. Voters in Chadwell will have the opportunity to choose their representatives who will work on local issues affecting the community.
